  1. It seems to me that they are trying to do something good by showing their costumers where their products are coming from, but at the same time, instead of trying to bring it to them, why not give the opportunity to tour the place where they are made, kind of like a Willa Wanka sort of thing, without all the songs and dancing.

  2. I think that this is a good marketing idea...it is showing that the Frito\Lay Chip Company wants to change their "unhealthy reputation" & turn it into something that we as consumers would see as tasty & naturally healthy. The idea of having their head chef in a small kitchen in Times Square, is trying to give off the perspective that it is not processed in a factory, rather it is natural or in other cases "homemade". From a marketing standpoint I would give this a "thumbs-up". I think it is a good start to turning their name into one healthy eaters can smile upon.

  3. Ever heard of healthy junk food? I for sure haven't. This is just another promotional method that companies are trying to use, saying that their products are all natural and good for you and in our country that sounds great since everything that we eat is fating and unhealthy. The kitchen they mention is also another promotional method, saying that their products are handmade by chefs not by machines which is suppose to be healthy. This maybe half true since the chef can be making new recipe but that recipe will be used by machines with imitation ingredients that are bad for us since that would be the best way for them to mass produce a product while being being profitable.

  4. This marketing idea is not too shabby. First, who doesn't like free stuff? Especially when you are touring NYC? It's a great idea to pass out free samples of a product to ensure that people like it and will continue to invest their money in the product. Next, it is promoting a new look on their chip company. They are advertising 'healthy' which makes Americans want to consume more of it. With America being a major obese nation, anything will be consumed with the label 'healthy' on it. It makes Americans feel better about themselves when they are consuming them.. because they are not just eating chips, they are eating HEALTHY chips at that. Also, credibility is a huge role in this marketing compaign. Having their top chef make these in front of people and pass them out is huge credibility wise. I would be more likely to fall for something as a consumer where credibility is in place. If somebody legit is advertising the product, I would find myself more likely to consume it.

  5. A chef making all the fritos of the world? Impossible. Yeah they probably put the chef out their to show the people that the frito company are trying to make their chips healthy. But how do they manufacture the rest of the fritos? A machine. Giving free sample in NYC to the public is another way to advertise the healthy chips. It is just trying to make more and more people consume their products probably daily. If i had been their and they put the chef infront of me doing the chips i would fall for that. It is a really good comercial.

  6. All food advertisers know that this day in age, they need to assure their customers that they are are not slowly killing themselves. Consumers want to eat actual food. By enlisting the help of Top Chef's, Padma Lakshmi, Frito Lay gives a sense of security to the potential buyers. Viewers of the show, Top Chef, know that Padma is a particular about his food. Therefore, for him to like junk-food, it would have to be expceptionally satisfying. The entire stunt they did in Times Square was a way to draw the attention of tourists who they know would go home and tell everyone they knew the show they had seen in New York. This is an ingenious marketing strategy. Those tourists recorded their experiences, put it on youtube, talked to their friends, and altogether stirred up curiosity for this new "healthy" junk-food. Frito-Lay just sprinkled some celebrity endorsement and entertained their viewers into investing in their new products. Overall, they know what they are doing and you can tell they have known for quite some time now.

  7. Well, I have to say this is in fact smart, As a county with an obesity problem we love to eat junk food even though we know its not good for us. So what they try to do is make us feel like we are eating a heather snack because it would be made with natural product but really its still junk food and bad for you. The whole cooking infront of people in time square is just so that people can see how frito's are made but still that puts the doubt in my mind, why didn't they go to an actual factory and really show how these fritos are made, its all a trick to get us to feel good about what we eat. But yet we believe in all of this and dont see a reason to doubt what they say because they love their product and want to keep eating it

  8. This is just a tricky way to get people to feel ok about eating a bag of potato chips. Buy saying that the chips are all natural they make people think that the food is healthy and possibly good for you. They are trying to take the gilt feeling out of eating junk food. Although this advertizing campaign seemed to work it sounds a little shady to me and I question the integrity of this company. I feel like this company is putting out falls advertisement on their product by trying to say it is healthy when in actuality it is not.

  9. This actually seems liek a pretty good idea from a marketing or producing standpoint. I can see how this helps make a lot more money and get the product out to a large number of people easily and not too expensively. Giving out free samples is a great way to get people interested in your product without the high prices of advertising. The healthy food angle is also a good idea, but could be used a bit unfairly. If it truely is healthy then more power to the companies, but they know people want to eat healthy and be healthy (when its easy for them). So if they even say their product will make you more healthy, people will buy it. Good or bad for the people is up to the companies, but its definitely good for the company.

  10. Society is always looking for a healthier substitution for the junk food they know and love. Giving the illusion that a favorite snack is actually somehow organic and non-processed is a big plus and a slap in the face at the same time. There is no way a frito can ever be a healthy snack, if it was it wouldn't be a frito. But if they can make it look like a better choice over another junk food, the illusioned commercial might win it for the team.

  11. healthy chips? Yeah right. This is just another tatic that advirters are using to mka emore people buy their product, and at the same time make them feel that they are doing more good to themselves then bad. I have eaten this so called "healthy chips" and don't get me wrong, they are good, but to me it seems that it is all a joke and the only thing that they really chnaged was the packing and not what is really in the chip. Saying it is healthy is just a way of telling people that they shouldn't feel so bad for eating so much, and that maybe the should blsme something else for their overwieght, and not the chips. This is a great stratagie, but soon enough people are going to start to notice that these "healthy chips" aren't so healthy.

  12. I think that all of this is just bs. The frito lay company is a junk food, chip company. It's nice and all that theyre trying to go healthy and help childhood obesity, but let's face it, they make money off of peoples bad decision making and unhealthy lifestyle choices. So they want people to be fat and unhealthy. This is just a cover to make them seem like theyre doing good.

  13. I think that to judge the Frito-Lay company on their approach to marketing, you need to understand that they are money making moguls. Frito-Lay has been in the business of deceit longer than we have been alive. They know what we want and what we want to see.
