And here is an example how it plays into political commentary as well.

  1. Watching this advertisment without sound I was able to pick apart the scene as it played infront of me. The first citation of this ad was the way they placed the woman right next to the man while he's watching tv. Of course he's in no regards to listen or even aknowledge her being there. While she is talking, the perspective of the camera placment on the guy's reaction shows that he is in control of the upcoming scene. Since he is put under pressure from the timer, he is surely going to concentrate in order to be awarded whatever prize in the end. Then once the timer runs out, he is greeted by two women wearing skin tight dresses and this clearly upsets the wife who is surprised by what is happening before her. She seems upset of the fact that she was primarily supposed to have the attemtion on herself when, in the end, all the attention is placed on the guy. This proves that the male dominance in this commericial is clear and straight to the obvious fact that he had more value on the klondik bar.

  2. The fact that a klondik bar means more to a man than having a genuine conversation with the woman he married just shows what perspectives of society has come to. I mean, of course when a man is in front of a tv watching spots and what not, he is not going to want to listen, but he could have, for more than five seconds, and not for a bribe. Yes, we know, sometimes we can talk a lot and get annoying, but all women..no scratch that..all PEOPLE deserve respect, no matter the situation.

  3. This commercial shows one of the most overused gender stereotypes ever: that all men would rather watch TV and are horrible listeners, and that all women are bothersome and talk continuously. While there are undoubtedly some people who fit this description, I think this stereotype has mainly been exaggerated by TV commercials and sitcoms. As for dominance, I don't see any in this commercial. If anything, the Klondike bar has more dominance over the man than the man has over the woman.

  4. This commercial used a very common stereotype among many commercials. The stereotype that, the wife is just an annoying & used to tend to the man. The fact that the woman is receiving no respect from her husband while he's too busy watching TV & then cheering for a Klondike bar. I think this commercial is very dumb & portrays women poorly, but it also stereotypes men as well. It shows a lazy looking guy with a 5 o'clock shadow bumming around watching TV & pretending to listen to his wife like he doesn't care. Although men are very often portrayed like this is sitcoms, movies & ads...I don't think it is a fair stereotype for all men. I would also like to add, that I agree with Jordan that the Klondike bar seems to have more dominance over the man, than the man has over the woman.

  5. This commercial gives a good example of how stereotype is portrayed between the differences of a man and woman. Its pretty much showing that when someone is married the man will always be superior to the woman. Here the man is watching some sports channel while sitting on the couch and not doing anything (physical appearence), later the wife comes maybe from doing some chores and wants to talk to him about important home ideas which he totally spaces out and does not let her finish talking when he already interupts her and lets two women come to his house and basically ignore the wife. The wife doesnt do anything nor does she seem to be mad so it shows a sense of superiority that the man has between the women. The chocolate bar being advertised shows how men dont enjoy what they are eating but rather devore it and kind of want to defeat the chocolate bar. Still another type of stereotype of how genders should behave.

  6. First of all, the man narrating what the husband is doing says "Mark vs. Actually listening to his wife". The way he says it sounds like listening to his wife is a huge joke which sets the tone for the entire commercial. When he is "listening" for the five seconds he has to before the celebration, you can see the sweat on his forehead and the strained expression on his face like listening to his wife is actually killing him. This represents males as just a presence when the TV is on, and that they are incapable of paying attention to anything else but the TV screen. This stereotype is very common throughout the media , and I agree with the previous comments that this is not a fair perception of men. This commercial shows the Klondike bar has more value and dominance of the man than what his wife has to say to him. Not all men value Klondike bars or etc. over everything as this commercial shows.

  7. I think that this commercial is very stereotypical about how guys never listen to what women say. I am pretty sure that the man in the commercial looked like he was going to die when he just had to listen to his wife for 5 seconds in order for him to get a Klondike bar. Like really? Only 5 seconds? This is ridiculous and I feel that this commercial is just trying to get a laugh out of everyone, but this commercial is not really that funny.

  8. I agree with a lot of the above comments. I think the Klondike Bar is the number 1 focus in this commercial, since that is what's being advertised. Obviously we all know stereotypes and we know that they aren't always accurate. To some extent this commercial was funny because it was so ridiculous and dumb. But on the other hand, it's kind of rude to women and makes us look like useless people. I don't know if this commercial realizes it yet, but they probably won't get too many women consumers, just saying.

  9. What they tried to do in this commercial is pretty obvios, they used a widely know stereotype or even scene where a man is doing something like watching tv or doing an activity and the wife is trying to get something across and is just simply ignored. But then what they try doing is almost making it seems as if talking to your wife is unbearable and that this klondike bar is just so delicious that the husband will do anything to get one. Honestly I dont understand why they have to portray men like this, they could have used a different type of method of getting the same point out across

  10. As everyone else has pointed out the idea behind this commercial is very clear. First it shows a man not listening to his wife. Then it shows a man struggling to listen for even five seconds and being rewarded because he was able to do that. Ignoring or ditching the wife is commonly shown in beer commercials; therefore I was surprised to see it in a commercial for ice cream. This is showing the dominance men are given in most advertisements. It also shows the very well known stereotype that it is easy to disrespect a woman. Advertisements like this hurt the image of men and women. It makes all men look inconsiderate and makes all women look like they can be taken advantage of. I think these images have been pounded into our brains and we find it normal to see something like this.

  11. I agree with Taylor when she says the narrator of the commercial makes the wife seem like a joke. It makes it seem like nothing women have to say is important. It also makes men look bad. The man in the commercial could barely stand listening to his wife talk for 5 seconds and he only did it for the Klondike Bar. I think its sad the way relationships are portrayed in the media today. It seems like whenever there is a relationship in an advertisement, someone is made out to be unimportant or look like an idiot whether it be the man or the woman. This is most commonly shown in beer commercials I think

  12. With the Klondike bar commercial (and it's not just that one) they compare horrible things that people will go through to get a Klondike bar but with this one it is the same stereotype that the annoying wife is always nagging at the man who is just trying to watch his T.V. and the fact that they portray talking to your wife as the worst thing ever is so disrespectful to woman. Also with the article if you read it, it doesn't sound as bad as the title makes it out to be but it is saying that "Pesky Wife" when you read the article it was a family decision made that he didn't want to run for president.

  13. This comercial is typical, quite frankly i find it disrespectful and rude as a woman. Comercials like these where the girl will try to have a conversation with her husband and he doesnt acknowledge her has made this kind of behavior very acceptable to society. "What would you do for a klondike bar?" Its usually crazy things or very out there stuff only desperate people do...listening to your wife for 5 seconds? Im disturbed. Second at the end when he survives her 5 second conversation, he is handed the Klondike bar by these thin young women and he jumps up with them giving them all the attention he doesnt give his wife, i question..Are these kind of comercials the reason why many men cheat?

  14. I think this is a quality, funny commercial. It takes the typical stereotypes of men and women, and blows them out of proportion. It is funny because not every man is that obsessed with watching football and not every woman is annoyingly talkative, but since it takes it to the extreme unrealistically, it makes it comical

  15. This commercial definitley made me laugh. The typical stereotype of how men never care what women really have to say. It appears very obvious that then man could care less to what his wife has to say just like most married couples are portrayed. This commercial also portrays women very poorly in the sense that a klondike bar is much more important. Having hot young women surround him with the klondike bar is demonstrating male dominance over his wife. In my opinion overall this commercial was ridiculous, and makes women look stupid.
