Violence against women has increased dramatically. Although TV portrays this unnecessary action, it is wrongful to show a wide variety of audience this. This gives the viewers the idea that this action is true and right to enact. This is disappointing in many ways. One of which, our children will be brought up with the value of portraying women in such way that this might lead to other misunderstandings made by younger generations. This can create controversy with young girls making them think that certain ideals are realistic and they should abide by each value against women.
Who learns more from this? That guys can act this way with out consequence or that women should tolerate such acts of violence from their boyfriends/spouses?
it shows both men that it is okay and women that if it gets to this point its not the worst thing. what they never truly show is what can come of it. women can be killed, and if they do not report the abuse or keep a record of it, then if taken to court, women will not get justice because there is no way to prove the abuse. men need to learn to never hurt a woman and women need to learn to get out while they are ahead.
By showing this it is giving out the idea that violence towards the women are right. Which is not. It is probably teaching or making think to little children that hitting women is right because they do not do anything about it. This bothers me in many many ways. I am a female and I actually do not enojoy women getting hit. What gets me even more mad is that some women do not report the abuse, because of that a lot of women are being killed.
I watched a movie the other day about an abusive teen relationship. It constantly showed the girl giving in to her boyfriend because she was in love with him. I think that is a problem today. Girls stay in these relationships because they are taught that guys are supposed to be dominate and they should love them anyway.
Its sad how they make woman look like. In movies and shows you often see violence against woman. Girls can grow up thinking that this is how their life is supposed to be, when really its not. Kids cant grow up thinking this is how their life should be when woman should be respected.
I think that violence against women is very bad. Media should not show any violence against women. I think that is just motivatint people to act with violence towards woman. I feel this portrays us women as vulnerable and weak. Also, I feel this is teaching younger kids to mistreat women. These kids are our future and if media portrays woman like this, I think society will change for worst.
Is it okay that viewers have almost just become immune to seeing women being abuse? I think the increase in violence against women is something we should be alarmed about. Violence against women is giving women a bad image. It portrays that women are weak and can be easily taken advantage of. It also makes all men look bad. When men abuse women on TV shows it shows them in a controlling position and makes it seem as if there are no "good" guys out there. Another problem that violence against women is creating is what children think when they see this. We don't want young girls growing up thinking they can let guys take advantage of them. We also don't want young boys believing it is okay to mistreat women.
We see this in every show involving a man and a woman, it gets to a point in where the man will either be drunk or mad and begins to take his anger out on the girl, why? Its because it creates suspense among the audience where we dont see this as a problem because its fake. But the thing is ... I feel like we are almost teaching the younger generation that it's ok to beat woman like it's a normal thing. I mean they grow up watching and seeing it everyday, what makes you think that kids are not effected by this and actually grow up and think it's ok.
On TV, movies, magazines, & etc. I have never once seen this scenario turned around where the male is the victim, but if this were to be the other way around, I can’t truly think of an incident where this has happened before. Considering this is how people in the world have been conditioned; to think that it in any situation, it will be the male doing the harm to a woman instead of vice versa, we will never see it from any other point of view because of how the media has influenced us to think this way. Since we see this throughout media sources on a daily basis we feel that this is the norm and we can follow these ideals portrayed to us. I can’t even tell you how many girls, even some that are close friends to me, allow their boyfriend, ex-boyfriend, or “friend” to walk all over them and show such low self-esteem and have no self-pride for themselves in situations where they have needed to stick up for themselves. I think it is unfair how the media has such influence over how this situation is portrayed into real life. It gives men as well as women, an unfair representation and that is unfortunate. It shows that woman can never truly find a good man and can never stick up for themselves in a bad situation and that men are always the abusers to women when they don’t get what they want or are drunk and that there are no actual “good guys” in the world. As the media continues and people continue to follow this scenario, out future kids are going to continue to learn this lesson and this cycle may never end.
I agree, violence towards women has definetley incresed over the past few years. About 50% of teenage girls from 14-17 have already experienced some kind of teenage dating abuse. And it's not getting any better, the way that they portray them on tv shows is weak for most of the time because when you see the guy using force during an argument the couple is having, you see that the girl doesn't really do anything to defend herself not even a little, she just lets herself be controlled by her boyfriend which makes it easier for him to believe that he has and will have full control over her. That's why even though it's bad that they show a lot of this it's good at the same time because it shows other teens what could happen if they let their boyfriends control them , Kind if like a wake-up call
It's sad to know that in society today that woman are shown as to be "inferior" to men and the men always have to dominate the woman. It's also sad that the media shows men abusing women and the woman is never going to leave him that she won't because she loves him and thinks it won't happen again. I think that the Gossip Girl producer saying that Blaire wasn't running away in fear and Chuck would never hurt her is totally contradicting what the video showed. Personally I've watched Gossip Girl from the beginning and I know how the show portrays their relationship but with her getting hurt, while cowering in fear and then running obviously shows me that she is scared. So I think that the media is teaching girls (especially teen girls) that if your boyfriend hits you that you are too dumb and weak to leave him so that girl will stay in that relationship.
I think that the constant representation of violence against women in media not only teaches men to become violent against women, bu t it shows women that it is a normal thing to happen and they should allow it. Violence against women in the media has been going on for what seems like forever. Even in old movies you can see the males clearly being dominant of women and committing violent acts against them. I don't know when it started to be ok to show women being beaten and stuff by men, but it is becomming much more frequesnt then ever before.
Violence is bad, none should be accepted in media, let alone violence against women. I am an all time watcher of the show Law and Order:SVU, and there was a case that showed that a male commited a crime or violence and rape to a women because of the fact they he saw it on t.v. and felt that it was right, that was the way things worked. During the show, his lawyer argued how media today was a big impact of people become violent, try to be perfect, and other things. That media prtrates things in a way, that are actually wrong, they are hurting us more then helping us. Children these days learn more from what they see on t.v. Then what their parents teach them. I know i don't want my children to grow up, where all that media prtrats is violence against women.
I think that society accepts the poor treatment of women because of the media. I feel that in movies and on tv women are portrayed to be less than men. I think that when people see all the violence toward women all the time they grow accustomed to it and begin to accept it.
I definitley agree with my classmates in the sense that violence againest women has only increased to an extremley high number. Why? Becuase of the media. Media allows men to be violent againest women rather its in a commercial, in magazines, on tv, or in movies. They act like its a normal everyday thing for men to be verbally, mentally, or physically abusive. Not only is this wrong in so many ways, but its degrading to so many women, and its only setting a very poor example for young teens. Media is portraying violence againest women to be okay and normal, however it is most definitley not, and needs to end.
