Facebook issue #1: It is true that every one shows various personalities through facebook. Rather than being yourself and showing people the true you through postings and pictures people decide to show off or maybe create a new persona through social networking. There are different ways to look at it. You may be the person who is friends with everyone and i mean EVERYONE containing over 1000 friends or there may be those people who are timid in person but step out of their shy ways in this fantasy world society has created through social networking, internet games, and chat rooms. There is no reasonable answer as to why so many fake their identity why not convey the person that best resembles you that way people whom are viewing your profile gets a sense of your true self.
This is a very liable and easy to attain resource that will further the understanding of education through the students eyes. Allowing video games as a learning resource will provide the kids with hands on skills that they may attain through the games. Since video games are so popular in younger generations, they are able to perform such tasks with less effort and it will help further their education.
I agree with the Facebook Issues and issue #4, for the following reasons. In today's society everything has gone digital; people are able to do more things over the Internet more than ever, one of the things that people use the Internet for are social networking sites. These sites such as Facebook and Twitter allow people to connect with others over the Internet and serve as a place for friendly conversations/connections. However one of the problems of these sites is that users are either over posting because they are addicted to the sites or that they are posting material that is unnecessary for the general public. These things are a big problem because the Internet along with the social sites make it easier for things to be exposed to the eyes of the general public. These sites have such a big presence in today's world that it is actually getting into the way of more important things such as work; this basically means that social networking sites can be more harmful that useful.
From the links of the defense, I only really see one of the links that would support these sites and that would be the use of media sites for protest. Since these sites allow for people to easily communicate with each other, protestors can easily use this resource stir up emotions of others so they can take to the streets and be heard. However, I disagree with the link about distracted people being more creative because I can relate from personal experience. I easily get distracted from my school work just by Facebook alone and this causes me to finish my work later and go to bed later. Since I do get distracted very easily, I dont find myself at all creative; however, I can't not talk for those who are.
I really agree with FB issue 1. I think this happen all the time with some people. One of my friends that I grew up with since first grade has an account and his interest and personal information is all made up. I never confronted him about it but there are people that make a whole new person of themselves on the internet. I think that they should be who they are and if others don’t appreciate who they are then they shouldn’t talk to those people.
To go along with what everyone is saying about Facebook issue #1, I feel that people do all those things because it gives them a sense of belonging. Of course its annoying when some people take over my entire news feed but it kind of reminds me of why people go to football games, dances or other school functions. They want to be apart of the school and be social. Same thing applies to Facebook. Everyone wants to be apart of it and they show they're apart of it by using everything Facebook provides.
Facebook issue #2: I find it funny that the first sentence of the article says the survey was done by 8-15 year old girls. Wasn't facebook originally created for college students? The people using facebook these days has become younger and younger. I don't think it safe for them to be on facebook because they don't understand not to accept people they don't know. I also wasn't surprised when it said girls are more dependent on Facebook. Girls have been known for being very social and always on the phone or computer. I think children need more family time rather than being allowed to sit on the computer for hours a day, but that is what parents do therefore their children are going to do it too.
I agree with what Katie says about issue # 2 my question is how do 8 year olds even know what facebook is?! I know that I didn't even get into social media until like 8th grade (when myspace was cool) and I didn't even get a facebook until my sophomore year. So why are they giving the survey to 8-15 year olds! It just doesn't make sense. Also with issue #3 I never thought that actual people had to scan through the images that people post on the internet I thought it was done by computer because therer are some sick people out there who will put anything on there that can be very disturbing.
In Facebook Issue #1, it shows the different personalities of Facebook users. I find it funny because I know for a fact that I have more than 1 Facebook friend that represents all of those personalities, and it is quite annoying. They actually suck at Facebook by being so abnoxious. I think Facebook was a good idea at first, to bring together everyone who was too far away or disconnected. Now, it has become a way to bring as much attention to yourself, if that's what you want, as possible. From taking quizes and sharing them with friends to updating your status every 10 minutes, Facebook has turned a lot of people into attention fiends.
I agree with Dan, Facebook seemed like a good idea at first but its really annoying how people have turned it into the most important thing in their lives. I know at least 2 people that fit into each of those categories. I can definately relate with "John Smith has tagged a photo of you in Facebook" When i go out with friends at least 4 out of the 5 people have cameras fully charged and ready to go, almost as if they need to prove that they in fact do have an exciting social life. Also, users feel the need to post every single thing they are doing. there is a particular post i remember, a girl said "OMG! im at church and im posting on facebook" this status was about her posting the status! To top it off her mom who was also in church replied "I know! get off" Users post in the most inapropriate times like dinners church and such. Facebook usage is out of control
Facebook issue #2 is an eye opener. I cant believe that 8 year old girls rate a social network as one of the top most important things in their lives, at 8 years old i remember still playing with dolls, the most important things in my life at the time were my parents, my toys, and playing at the local park. Its very disturbing to see how the attitudes and priorities of young girls have drastically changed. Parents should keep up with technology and monitor their children. Facebook could lead them into a dangerous situation, the article said that you must be at least 13 yrs old to sign up well these 8 yr olds who have them are lying about their age, for some reason young girls always want to appear older and that can be extremely dangerous.
I agree with the first Facebook issue 100%. I notice a lot of the same qualities described in the issue in my group of friends. I know some people with upwards of 3000 friends, that's just unrealistic. The number of people the contact even every now and then cant be anywhere near that high. I would also like to comment on the issue of people being fake or different on Facebook than they are in real life. I havent noticeed that so much with people I know, but I could see how it could happen. Everyone has something about them that they would like to change or fix or do differently. And on Facebook, where people may not know the real you, you can be whoever you want. It is sad and pathetic that people do that, but people become who they think people want them to be on Facebook, either to get attention or those thousands of friends they hope to achieve... For whatever reason.
Learning by playing video games: Earlier in the year I read an article in Media Literature class about learning through video games. At first i was a bit skeptical but after reading this article and furthermore testing it myself, i agree 100%. I recognize that children nowadays relate and understand technology way more than they did 15 years ago. Not only should we keep up with their interests, but we should also find ways where learning is not so boring. I proved this myself, during government class we were told to go play a 30 minute game online were we had to determine wether a law was constitutional or not, through this game i learned every amendment in 30 minutes. Learning through games indeed does work and i think this is a great idea.
